Blue Dog Dems endorse ruining everything for everyone
There are very legitimate reasons to be worried about the national deficit, especially in the medium and long-term.
In the near term, there are even more legitimate reasons to be scared to death that “Blue Dog” Democrats are supporting a balanced budget amendment that’s scheduled for a House vote.
Requiring the budget to be balanced every year is a good thing, right? Here’s ThinkProgress, quoting The Hill:
“We were advancing a balanced budget amendment when balanced budget amendments weren’t cool,” a co-chairman of the coalition, Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), told reporters on a conference call. […]
Macroeconomic Advisers thinks this is a very bad idea. As in, it would require crippling cuts to social services that provide lifelines for millions and stimulate our already-ailing economy. In other words, Macroeconomic Advisers says, it would double the unemployment rate and do all sorts of “catastrophic” things to our economy. Bruce Bartlett calls it “frankly nuts.”
Be afraid.
